EACC detectives from Nairobi arrest Wajir County top officials

WAJIR—Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission have arrested the county secretary of Wajir in morning swoop.

Ahmed Sahal Omar was arrested by anti-graft detectives from Nairobi who jet in on Saturday morning. He was held at Wajir police station by the time of publishing this story.

The detectives have also reportedly arrested the County Executive Officer for Finance and Economic Planning, Daud and head of Treasury department, Jeff Mworia.

Sources close to the investigation said the Secretary was arrested for ”over-staffing the county” when he set out on an employment spree on May, June and July.

On Saturday last week, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Saturday raided the residence of Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi in Nairobi and Wajir town.

The detectives secures trove of documents they said would aid in the investigation into how sh 350 was lost since last financial year.

The detectives also unearthed lose of “huge amounts of money that was lost through dubious vouchers.”

The governor denied report that documents of interest was collected from his house.

In Lower Kabete, the detectives arrested the spouse of Wajir County head of treasury, Sonia Mworia who is believed to the mastermind of the shocking scheme.

“She destroyed vital documents to conceal the embezzlement, ” a brief statement by the EACC said.
